Our History

Where Calvary Southbury has been, and where we're venturing to

Who We Are

Calvary Southbury is a place where Jesus is made known, people are being transformed and all are loved. We're a non-denominational Christian church in Southbury, CT, and we believe that Jesus transforms lives and that we all need that transformation. As a Christian church, we put Jesus at the center of everything we do. Whether it's our worship, study of the Bible, or our time getting to know each other, we want it all to be about Jesus. Because we know that Jesus loves all, we love everyone. We step out of our comfort zone, serve those in need, and give of ourselves so others will know the love of God. We believe that God will use this church in Southbury to impact the region and the world.

Where We Come From

Calvary Southbury was planted by John and his wife Brenda in 1998 as a Bible study in their home. Back then, Calvary Southbury was just a small group of new believers in Jesus who made the decision to start meeting on Sunday mornings to see what God would do. This decision would transform their lives and the region. This was a venture in faith in a spiritually bleak landscape, in a region where a Bible-teaching, non-denominational church was almost unheard of.

We met for the first year in the VFW Hall, setting up and tearing down each week. It was our beginning, our venture- a new church who wanted to see this dead region know the joy of following Jesus. Eventually, the space we were using was given to other groups. This landed us in Bennett Square, where we held services until the fall of 2018, growing and eventually renting out two full buildings. From there, we moved to B'Nai Israel in Southbury, having outgrown our space at Bennett Square. We stayed there until spring 2020, as we are completing construction on our very own building at 354 Kettletown Road in Southbury. We now have a permanent space, and it is amazing. God is moving in marvelous ways, and we are in awe at the things that are happening each week!
